The AISC / ASCE Student Steel Bridge Competition is an annual competition held by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) in collaboration with the American Society of Civil Engineers.

It involves designing, manufacturing, and constructing a steel bridge approximately 20 ft long that can hold 2,500 pounds! Any individual steel member on the bridge must fit into a 3.5 ft x 6 in x 4 in box. The competition requires that the bridge's design consider its strength, stiffness, and constructability.

At the 2026 ASCE IN-KY Student Symposium, the Notre Dame Steel Bridge team qualified for its first national appearance in school history! The competition took place in El Paso, Texas, in May 2026. Pictures of the competition can be seen below.

The team focuses on designing the bridge during the fall semester and constructing the bridge during the spring semester.
